Stupid white men

by Michael Moore

This book tells you "everything you need to know" about all that's wrong with the USA. Michael Moore dishes the dirt on political corruption, corporate greed, electoral fraud and (allegedly) presidential stupidity and downright incompetence. Moore has recently won yet another award for his no-nonsense brand of socio-political analysis of America.

"Savagely hilarious" - Irish Times
"Furious and funny. A great book." - Time Out
"Brilliant" - The Funky Librarians

Berlitz German-English/ Englisch-Deutsch Dictionary/ Worterbuch

Never again need you find yourself stranded on a foreign beach with nowhere to sit! This handy little dictionary und phrasebuch contains such essentials as das ist (that is), mein (my) and Liegestuhl (deckchair), thus enabling you to assert yourself in a potentially hostile holiday environment.

And if all does not go quite according to plan, then there are lots of other handy phrases which should help you to request simple medical treatment or the protection of the local Polizei.

In short, this is one book you cannot do without if you are going to Europe this summer. In a word, it's wunderbar!

Catastrophe Calamity & Cataclysm

by James Cornell

We rarely purchase our books new, this one, like many others was purchased from a local charity shop. But what caught my eye was the blurb on the back;

"The typist on the 82nd floor looks up and sees an Air Force bomber fly past her window. She can see the face of the pilot, his look of horror. Seconds later the crash comes, the explosion. The nightmare fear of everyone who lives or works in a high-rise building has come true! (Crash on the 79th Floor)"

At first I thought it was fiction, but on looking inside found it to contain a collection of disasters.

Another caught my attention, and it was this one that prompted me to post this blog.

It's called 'The Forgotten Fire' because it happened at the same time as the Great Chicago Fire. Even though I live in the UK, this is a very sad story which happened in Peshtigo, Wisconsin.

For more information on the Peshtigo fire, here's a website I found which has more details.

The Triumph Of The Moon

A History of Modern Pagan Witchcraft
by Ronald Hutton

This book offers the first full-scale scholarly study of the only religion England has ever given the world: modern pagan witchcraft. Ronald Hutton examines the nature of this religion, its development, and attitudes toward it in British society since 1800, presenting an authoritative insight into a hitherto little-known aspect of modern social history.

We worship Ronald Hutton, he is seriously funky!

Pip-pip

A sideways look at time
by Jay Griffiths

"This is a book for those who suspect there's more to time than clocks - this is an infectiously enthusiastic argument for other, more extraordinary times, the diverse cycles of nature, of folk-tale or of carnival, when time is unlimited and on your side...Jay Griffiths examines the way past and future are seen; how modernity's speed damages nature's time; how women's time differs from men's and how children's time is different from either. Rejecting the idea that time is money, she asks rather whose money is made from whose time. This book should change the way we view time - forever."

Guaranteed to be one book which will never gather any dust. You will want to read, re-read and re-read again.
